Sophie and Kevin from Investmentbuilder - How We invest

Who are you?

Hi, we are Sophie (27) and Kevin (28) from Investmentbuilder. We live in the beautiful Meenz am Rhoin (Mainz 😉).

While I (Kevin) come from the financial sector and have been working in the field for 8 years now, Sophie's background is in business administration and marketing. This mixture is super when you think about our common idea. With Investmentbuilder we want to create an interface between financial education and consulting. We don't want to be just another contact person, but we want to give our community the necessary knowledge with webinars and video courses to be able to weigh up and make financial decisions individually.

After all, knowledge from school and university? Not a chance!

Our goal is to make the world of finance a little better, more transparent and more sustainable.

We therefore saw Corona as an opportunity to further digitalize our idea. As a team, we therefore complement each other fantastically, because while I slipped into my technical jargon (sorry, occupational disease) after 5 minutes, Sophie has the customer glasses on to keep our courses and the content of our social media channels simple and understandable. "Fun Fact" about us: we are not only business partners, but also a couple in real life and actually sit on top of each other 24/7. And yes, that's not always easy. 😁✌🏻

When did you start investing?

Kevin: That was in 2014 in a fixed-income annuity. With my current expertise, I would no longer recommend this to anyone. Monetary investments are simply not worth it at the moment. Step by step, I started to invest more and more in tangible assets such as gold, silver, but also ETF funds. I also still hold my first share. Walt Disney - wasn't so bad. 😁

Sophie: For me it was actually - although I did not really know anything about the matter at the time - also already in 2015. However, only about a one-time stock purchase, because I had saved money in the account through my side jobs, which I wanted to invest. At that time, my dad still did that for me. After not having invested in years (except in handbags 😅), I have dealt with the topic more thanks to Kevin about half a year ago. The first thing I tackled was the topic of retirement planning. An "annoying", but super important topic that unfortunately with most comes much too short.

What is your investment strategy?

Our investment strategy is a classic buy & hold strategy with a focus on real assets.

Our portfolio is highly diversified and, in addition to ETFs, managed funds, equities and physical gold, has recently also included crypto and a unit-linked pension insurance for retirement provision (tax benefits). Our goal is to also invest in real estate as an asset as soon as possible.

What is your secret tip or a sector/stock that you currently like?

It sounds banal, but you should always imagine the world of tomorrow and invest in companies that find a place in that world. Sectors like biotech, renewable energy, IT, robotics but also consumer goods are therefore interesting for us.

Not an insider tip, but our Investmentbuilder slogan is "invest today, celebrate tomorrow" - so invest time in financial education today and then money to profit from it in the future. That's what we advise, too: Just start and don't keep putting it off! And since many are still afraid of losing money: Hey, no successful investor has never lost money. Diversify, invest with a long horizon and you'll be fine.

What was your biggest investment blunder?

Sophie: I haven't made an investment mistake yet, but my biggest mistake (with one exception) is not having started investing earlier! And one mistake that I always notice with many people is that they don't do anything for their retirement. I've seen a few cases lately - especially women - who don't have much time left until retirement and haven't made provisions for it. That breaks my heart! So go girls, do something for yourselves and your future and don't rely on your partner or keep putting off the issue. 🚀

Kevin: My biggest investment blunder was a bitcoin mining scam - a few years ago and I don't want to think about it anymore either. 😅 But as I said learn from it, analyze and move on. But also important: only invest in what you understand.

What does your portfolio currently look like?

In our portfolio, which we also like to share with the community here, there are both ETFs and stocks. The focus of our equities is currently on biotechnology companies and German equity funds.

In the future, we want to focus even more on sustainable investments and continue to invest in renewable energy, alternative transportation, biotech and hydrogen. The gaming sector is also a steadily growing area.

Invest today, celebrate tomorrow 🚀
